Future Paleontologists

We have learned about fossils, what they are, and how they are formed. We experimented with making imprints with objects in Play Dough, and trying to guess what made the imprint. In some of the photos, some students' backs may be turned, or eyes covered, while another student makes the imprint. Guessing what made the imprint is harder than it seemed at first. Science is fun!

Flower Pen Factory - We worked so hard!

We are learning about Economics in Social Studies, and marketed, sold, made, and packaged hundreds of flower pens on our first factory day, Friday, January 29. Everyone had a designated job in our factory, and also helped out wherever needed. We met all of our deadlines! We are donating our profits to charity. Each class is adopting an animal at the Houston Zoo, to help with its care and feeding. All of the remaining proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Here are a few pictures of the morning class in action.

Snow at Kaufman! Real Snow!

On Friday, December 4, 2009, just before we went to Specials in the morning, the kids noticed that it was snowing! Everyone threw on their jackets and gloves and ran outside for a few minutes. The kids were so excited and amazed. Throughout the day, we would repeat the same routine - grab the coats, and run outside. Here are a few photos of our Texas snow. It's hard to see the flakes, and it did not accumulate, but it was enough to make some second graders very happy!
