Visit from Oak Ridge High School Chemistry Students

On March 9, we had a lesson on slime and polymers from Oak Ridge High School chemistry students. The high school students were impressed with how much our students knew about solids, liquids, and gases, and how well-behaved they were, and how much they knew about safe lab behaviors. Each student marveled at their slime as it formed, and we were all able to take home some slime in a baggie. It was fun!

Houston Zoo !!!!!!!

We had a fabulous visit to the Houston Zoo on March 3. The day was perfect - gorgeous weather, the animals were awesome, the kids had a great time, our parent chaperones were the best ever, traffic was just fine for the buses, etc. Before we knew it, though, it was already time to meet for lunch and board the buses to head back to Kaufman. We all agreed that we didn't have enough time at the zoo.









With a portion of the proceeds from our flower pen factories, each class adopted an animal at the zoo. We helped to pay for food, habitat enhancements, and veterinary bills for the orangutans and the meerkats at the zoo. We were proud to see them having a fun time during our zoo visit!

Flower Pen Factory 2011

We worked so hard in our flower pen factories this year! All of our proceeds from the flower pen sales were donated to charities.

The Flower Pen Depot adopted the meerkats at the Houston Zoo and donated the rest of their proceeds to the Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch.

The Incredible Pens Factory adopted the orangutans at the Houston Zoo and divided the rest of their proceeds between Jump Rope for Heart, The Montgomery County United Way, and Relay for Life (American Cancer Society).

We are very proud of the students and their wonderful work ethic and generous hearts!

Turkey Trot

This week in P. E. we ran the Turkey Trot! Quite a few students from our classes placed in the top categories, or chose to run the laps. It was quite a feat!

Today was the Kaufman annual Turkey Trot. We are so proud of the winners from our classes! Such good athletes! Congratulations, everyone who ran. The weather was gorgeous today.

New Class T-Shirts

We all got new T-shirts today! Each second grade class has a different color, with the same design. We are the navy blue and red classes. We can wear these shirts to school any day, and we will all wear them for special events such as our field trip, cup stacking tournament, or carnival day at the end of the school year. We posed in front of some of our playground equipment and beside the school.
